According to various media reports, Coventry City are preparing to offer star-striker Viktor Gyokeres a bumper new contract, as a bid to try and persuade him to extend his stay at the football club, despite interest from the Premier League.
The 24-year-old has scored nine goals in 19 Championship appearances so far this season, and is the division's joint top-goalscorer. The Swedish international has just completed a week away with his national side, starting both matches and has now earned an impressive 11 caps, scoring two goals as well as picking up an assist in the process.
Following an article from Football League World, they have linked Premier League sides Everton, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Leeds United to his services. The Skyblues did turn down an offer from a Premier League side late on deadline day, and also quoted Championship side Middlesbrough with a price-tag of £20,000,000 for his services, with many managers and pundits describing him as the divisions best forwards.
Gyokeres is currently under contract until June 2024, after signing a three-year-deal back in July 2021, when he joined the club from Premier League side Brighton Hove Albion for roughly £1,000,000. Therefore, in January, the interest is going to be at an all-time high, but with the club set to be taken over by businessman Doug King, with promises of no January sales, time will only tell whether King will put his money where his mouth is or will the Skyblues be forced to offload their highest valued asset at a crucial point in the season.
